Peak-Speedwell Water Levels

A project is underway to bring together rainfall data and river level gauges for the Peak-Speedwell cave system and to provide flood warnings to Castleton residents.

The link below shows river level data from Peakshole Water, P6 Swallet, and Bradwell Brook, as well as rainfall data for Chapel Reservoir above Dove Holes.

Castleton Weather Station

A local weather station has been set up by a Castleton resident. The website allows you to see both live and historic rainfall readings. Other local weather station sites can also be seen through Met Office WOW.

07/12/24 – Sadly this seems to be offline now. I’ll keep the link here for a bit longer in case it returns, but there is nothing showing on WOW either.

River Derwent Level at Mytham Bridge

This Environment Agency river level gauge is located at Mytham Bridge, near the garden centre. It reflects the combined flow of the River Derwent, River Noe, Bradwell Brook and Peakshole Water. It’s not an accurate level gauge for the Peak and Speedwell resurgence itself, but is an indicator of the trending levels for all the watercourses that feed out of this valley.
